History of the ICT Symposium
Trinidad and Tobago’s National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Strategy is a comprehensive plan that leverages the power of people, innovation, education, information technology and infrastructure to accelerate social, economic and cultural development. The strategy has an integral role in making Trinidad and Tobago a knowledge-based society and achieving its goal of developed country status.
It was designed to actively include people from civil society, government and the private sector to collaborate in developing the ICT capabilities within the country. One of the working groups that was established to assist in this venture was the e-Business Roundtable and Infrastructure Taskforce which was assembled to provide advice and guidance to ensure the country’s connectivity agenda was achieved.
The e-Business Roundtable was the driving force in partnering with the Ministry of Public Administration in hosting the first ICT Business and Innovation Symposium which turned out to be the single, largest ICT-business networking and information sharing initiative in the country.
Held in November 2008 at the Hyatt Regency, Trinidad, over 500 persons participated in the initiative, including exhibitors and international speakers representing over 13 countries, a wide cross section of the public and private sector, including government Ministries, financial institutions, manufacturing, energy and academia.
